On Friday night, the 8th grade girls track team competed in their district track meet at Cuero. The girls did not finish in first like they wanted but they all ran their little hearts and came out in 2nd place against some very tough schools. Here are a few highlights from the meet:
200 M Dash:
Mikala Theis 28.43 – 2nd; Angel Tucker 28.97 – 4th
400 M Dash:
Elizabeth Kemp 1:11.16 – 5th
800 M Run:
Mary Martinez 2:44.77 – 3rd; Trinity Garcia 2:48.13 – 5th Mary Martinez almost finished in 4th place, but the girl ahead of her started to slow down right at the finish line and Mary came out of nowhere saying, “mine, mine” beating the Gonzales girl to the finish line by .13 seconds.
1600 M Run:
Raylin Castillo 6:11.13 – 2nd; Trinity Garcia 6.26.35 – 4th Raylin was determined to beat the girl from Navarro who got the best of her last week in Gonzales. Raylin went into sicko mode to keep the race close but finished in 2nd. Although she did not get the place she wanted, she made the girl from Navarro work for 1st. If Raylin had 1 more meet to compete against her, Raylin would have gotten the best of her. She will be back next year, looking to take back what is hers!!
2400 M Run:
Karolina Arguijo 9:22.95 – 1st; Raylin Castillo 10:20.45 – 5th All she does is “win win win no matter, got medals on her mind she can’t get enough, every time she step up on the track everybody’s hands go up…” Karolina “the cars wash” Arguijo did what she does best and came away with another first place finish. She did not lose one race in the 2400 all year!

Brylee got the baton with her team in 3rd, she had a La Vernia girl right on her tail and a Cuero girl ahead of her about 10 yards. Brylee ended up pulling away from the La Vernia girl and in the last 50 yards with her coach yelling “It’s Miller Time!” Brylee turned on the jets, passed the girl from Cuero and helped her team finish in 2nd place.
Victoria Urbanczyk 35’1” – 1st; Jaelyn Morales 31’6” – 5th
Victoria Urbanczyk 89’5” – 1st; Angel Tucker 75’1” – 5th; This was Victoria’s second 1st place of the day. No one could match her power, it’s like she was telling everyone “do you even lift bro!”
Miranda Silva 29’11.1/2” – 1st; Trinity Garcia 27’9” – Trinity Garcia: Miranda has been on a tear in the triple jump, this was her 2nd meet in a row getting 1st place in the triple jump.
Mary Martinez 4’4” – Although the smallest girl on the team, small but might Mary was able to finish in 6th place recording a personal best in the high jump.
Elizabeth Kemp 7’0” – 1st; Mary Martinez 6’6 – 5th; Elizabeth Kemp saved her best performance for the district track meet. She was literally raising the bar for all the other girls at the meet and no one could keep up with her mad skills as she placed 1st overall.
We are very proud of how hard all of our girls competed all year. The future is looking very bright for every one of these special athletes. The high school coaches are receiving a special group of girls to work with next year. Thank you to all the parents for allowing us to work with your girls. Also, for coming out to support them at each and every meet, no matter the distance. You are the real champions! Pride! Pride!
